Welcome to Night City

Howdy chooms! It seems finally the dog days of the apocalypse are upon us and the game is rapidly (in a surprisingly well organized delivery campaign) reaching towards its ultimate destination, the players. Instead of arriving like a much awaited diva at the gala where everybody is frothing with anticipation, it is dropping like a solo marine in a sea of Zerg (sorry having a starcraft moment).

At this point in time, the CCG market is way past the point of "too many games" again, much like current viral social media vibe, it's "buy cards like it's the early 90s" (note to self in case of future time travel: just because Bloodwars is a cool title, it doesn't mean it's a good game). Fortunately, Cyberpunk seems to have quite a few things going for it:

  • Judy Alvarez on cards. Sold here and now - sorry chooms! Make sure any iconics you trade are UV scanned first. Who knows, you might be the first lucky soul to catch an STD from a CCG (which are widely used in civilised society as a suave Birth Control)
  • It's dirt cheap. Well, not really - the game is baseline priced (or a bit above for EU standards), but with an 150 card base set and a market that is coming down from the hype faster than a robo-cab goes batshit, you can comfortably cruise and try to farm the first few months with very minimal investment (sell your One Flop shinies)
  • It feels like a lottery. Lots of games try to do this recently, following grandaddy MTG's cue, but in Night City your chances of actually hitting something decent are slightly similar to getting a sausage suprise in a Pattaya bar. Pretty good. There are accounts of people that are actually piggy backing on their lack and from one box they are trading upwards to large collections. Fun times. It will never happen to you of course, but ride or die choom!
  • The IP is awesome. The sun rises from east, Cyberpunk is fantastic. Can't wait for EdgeRunners spillover.

Apart from those minutiae, there is a minor issue regarding the actual game: it is pretty darn good - a smart, modern CCG that is very OP friendly, and even with a small card pool it has a pretty decent set of things to do. But you didn't come here to actually read about the game, right?
