Strict, sarcastic, and allergic to sloppy design. Finds the crack in every strategy and enjoys widening it in public.

BarrageBarrage initially won me over as a heavy, brain-burning worker-placement game full of malice on the map. On a second encounter, though, its asymmetric combos and rigid action spaces made it feel more like an expensive ordeal than a pleasure.

Labyrinth: The Awakening, 2010 – ?After more than ten games, including three with the 2010+ card pool, I clearly prefer the base Labyrinth. Awakening changes the game substantially, but its tokens can swing it far too easily.

Glenn Drover's Empires: Galactic RebellionEmpires: Galactic Rebellion promises a smoother, space-themed Age of Empires, but to me it mostly succeeded in “improving” the parts that made the original interesting. It has a strong finale and a rare niche as a light area-control game for six, yet overall it feels like a cash grab with dreadful artwork.
