The discussion over what to put on the table had begun with thoughts of the fresh game about China. It was committed elsewhere, though, so it had to wait. With a trainee railroad tycoon at the table, we settled on the simple charm of a classic: 1870 and little trains.
The game had us battling both on the stock market and on the board. This was no peaceful ride with steam engines: every part of the game became a field of conflict, with choices in one arena carrying weight in the other.
The interaction was harsh and direct, with plenty of hatred circulating through both of those arenas. I am fairly sure the lifelong president of KATY is still howling, which on its own describes the mood of the game quite well.
The end came with a margin of just $21, and an underdog victory. Classic, tight, and exactly as malicious as it needed to be to make the evening memorable. A better analysis in a week.
