Caverna: Cave vs Cave
A lovely little game that passed the holiday-board-game-bag test. Easy rules, pleasant gradual building, and yes: we love Uwe.

I had played Caverna: Cave vs Cave before and really wanted to try its sequel too, but the vault had other ideas: the ban on weights over five kilos kept me away from the difficult cupboards. So this little friend returned to the table mainly for the most practical test of all: does it deserve a spot in the holiday board-game bag?
The rules are easy, and for a holiday game that counts twice. You get into it quickly, without needing to carry around a heap of explanations or look up clarifications every other minute.
The game moves along little by little, with that calm, steady feeling that you are building something step by step. I do not have some big story of direct conflict between players here; what remains is the pleasant, small-scale process of advancing your own part of the game.
And in the end, it probably survived another round of Survivor: Boardgame Edition. It is nice, mini, and easy enough to justify its place on holiday. We love Uwe.
