Commands & Colors: Napoleonics Expansion #6 – EPIC Napoleonics
EPIC Mode makes Commands & Colors: Napoleonics feel even more like what I want from a big Napoleonic confrontation: more scale, more tactics, and, naturally, far more cannon fire.

For me, Commands & Colors: Napoleonics is by far the best game in the series. I had taken too long to try EPIC, mostly because time is scarce and there are so many scenarios, but in the end it was absolutely worth the wait. In this format, the game truly takes off—especially once the new action & tactics decks from Field Marshals and Tacticians reach the table.
The core experience remains the familiar Napoleonics confrontation, but the EPIC scale gives the battle much more room to breathe. There is the satisfyingly rough brawl I expect, there is cannon fire, yet the larger scope of the conflict meaningfully changes how I read the situation on the table.
Where, at a smaller scale, dice tricks can draw too much attention, here they are better balanced within the overall development of the battle. The emphasis shifts more toward tactical developments and temporary victory banners, rather than revolving quite so much around a scenario’s area-control elements. The action & tactics decks also fit beautifully into this larger, fuller version of the conflict.
I recommend it without reservation to fans of the sport. If you already love Napoleonics, honestly, you probably know this already: EPIC is exactly the kind of excess you want.
