Escape Plan

Escape Plan is an epic winner, full stop. After two back-to-back plays, I can say it without a second thought: buy it with your eyes closed.

An epic winner, what else is there to say? I played two games back to back, one with four players and one with five, and Escape Plan won me over immediately. I have already said most of it in the mini-review, but the short version is the right one here: I liked it a lot.

With four players, I had a great time and the game worked exactly as it should. It was not just a test run; it was enough to show me that this is a game I want to bring back to the table.

With five players, though, things get wilder and tighter still. For a euro game, that is rare and very welcome: the fifth player makes the experience more intense.

That exact difference between the two line-ups is what stayed with me. I had a good time in both cases, but with five I found Escape Plan in its wildest, tightest form.

So there is no need to overthink it. If you want my plain opinion after two consecutive plays, buy it with your eyes closed.

  • Toy Battle

Toy Battle is a smart, accessible two-player game that got us properly hooked. Cheap, hugely fun, and easy enough for children to teach successfully to their friends.

  • Unmatched: Teen Spirit

Unmatched: Teen Spirit confirmed, in the simplest possible way, why the series has such a loyal following: its duels are brisk, satisfying, and ideal for sharing around the table.

  • Stone Age

Stone Age is one of those older, clean worker-placement games that still makes it immediately clear why the genre became so popular. I do not consider it equal to modern games, but it remains a very good, approachable choice with real competition.
