Review
Tulip Bubble
Tulip Bubble remains a tried-and-true favourite of my group: with the right people around the table, it can be genuinely epic. This evening also showed how brutally the market cards can sweep it off course.

Tulip Bubble has become one of those games that comes out like a familiar friend in my group; I am nearing double-digit plays, and I still love the tension it brings to the table. In one tough game that evening, the market’s whims truly turned everything upside down—and with the right group, this game remains simply epic.
At its core, we are watching a tulip market that never stays still. The cards governing the stock market and arrivals shape the course of the game, overturning what seemed settled and forcing us to adapt to the new situation.
The interaction comes precisely from that shared, unpredictable market: we are all moving through the same shifts, and our decisions gain weight as the atmosphere changes. When the cards line up well, the turmoil becomes the enjoyably tough heart of the game; when they do not, they can push things very quickly in one direction.
That is why I still keep it as a tried-and-true favourite, without pretending it is always fair or controlled. Even when a game goes wrong, there is something lovely about wrapping it up quickly, saying goodbye to friends, finishing the nuclear chicken ribs, and carrying on with the evening in a relaxed, friendly spirit.
Updated session
The later five-player game did not confirm the earlier session’s tough but interesting tension. The stock-market and arrival cards fell so badly that the game became one-sided and wildly erratic very quickly—something I had not seen in more than ten plays. The repeated account of this session carries exactly the same assessment: it was a rare bad swing, not a change of heart about the game overall.
