Dune: Imperium
Dune: Imperium improves once everyone at the table knows its tricks and still cannot quite avoid them. Familiarity does not make it gentler; it gives the game sharper teeth.

Dune: Imperium served as relaxation in the most suspicious sense of the word: we all know it now, we all know what it can do, and we still sit down ready to make trouble for one another.
Once the group has the game in hand, its rhythm is not about discovering rules but exploiting what everyone knows. Every choice comes with the feeling that somebody has already seen it coming and is holding something back.
The interaction sits in the nasty Intrigue plays: you expect them now, and you still glare when they arrive.

The interaction sits in the nasty Intrigue plays: you expect them now, and you still glare when they arrive. Nobody is innocent at this table. There is only the brief confidence that someone else will be paying for it this time.
The race stayed hard right to the end, and the winner earned the coronation. For me, Dune: Imperium is a very serious game-of-the-year contender.
