Review
Feudum
Feudum is a heavy euro with a psychedelic character, almost no downtime, and plenty to keep you occupied. I liked it a lot, but balance issues and a little unnecessary rules clutter keep it from being my game of the year.

After the disappointment of Grim Darkness of the Future, Feudum was the return to the burning haze and psychedelia I needed. It is one of those heavy euros with all the ingredients I look for, without leaving me staring at the ceiling while everyone else finishes their turns.
At its heart, it is a heavy euro with plenty to manage and decisions to weigh. The game asks you to keep track of many things, but its flow never bogs down: downtime is almost nonexistent, which is genuinely impressive for a game of this weight.
That means I stay engaged with the game and with everyone else’s choices, rather than checking out between moves. There is, however, a little more “mush” than I would like: not enough to turn it into a chore, but enough to make me feel that some elements could be cleaner and less overloaded.
In the end, I liked it quite a lot and I would happily play it again. I just do not consider it game of the year material: I see some balance issues, along with that small amount of unnecessary complexity, keeping it one step behind the truly great ones.
