Marvel Zombies: A Zombicide Game
Marvel Zombies won me over despite my initial suspicion: it is a silly, random, and thoroughly enjoyable guilty pleasure. With the right group—or with kids—the Marvel theme and the X-Men combos give it an extra reason to hit the table.

I went into Marvel Zombies: A Zombicide Game like someone merely trying to justify the money they had thrown at it. Two games later—one with the zombies and one with X-Men Resistance—I had to admit the uncomfortable truth: I enjoyed it. It is a proper guilty pleasure, and I am not going to pretend otherwise.
At its core, it is a game where the luck of the dice can send you flying or leave you staring at the table in despair. That randomness is not always the most refined experience, but it becomes part of the show: when the dice abandon someone, the teasing begins and the whole group has more fun.
The two sides we tried offer different flavours, with X-Men Resistance standing out thanks to its combo powers. And as the difficulty rises, the game asks for some honest brain-burning to get through it; it did not feel as brainless to me as the base Zombicide 2nd Edition.
I will not present it as the wisest or most finely crafted game in the world. But I will state the obvious, because it is true here: with the right group, or with my son and his friends, it is a very worthwhile entry in the genre. And the Marvel flavour is exactly that little extra that makes it worth taking off the shelf.
